What do you do when you mess up? When you don’t hit the mark? When you totally screw it up?
What you say, what you do, how you respond plays a huge role in determining the impact that said mistake will mean for you.
Too often we let a mistake hold us back. We use it as an excuse to give up or stop trying. We should do what my kids often do: they will be playing in the kitchen, knock over a drink, say “oops”, and keep playing. Sometimes they’ll clean it up, but never do they consider the option to stop playing all together because they made a mistake (unless so prompted by a parent!).
When you’ve done something stupid:
- ask for forgiveness
- forgive your self
- figure out why you did it in the first place (didn’t do it, said it, didn’t say it)
- find a plan to not make the same mistake again
- say oops and move on!
