Like many of you, I am facing a few decisions in my life that could potentially make a huge difference for my future. A cross road offers a great opportunity. You can go left. You can go right. Some of us see a cross road and are gripped with fear. What if I go right but then realize I should have gone left? What if I make the wrong choice? What if _______? At this point, many will sit at the cross road and delay the decision, which probably does more harm than going left or right. Well, what do you do in my case when there is a deadline on the decision? What do you do when you have to make a decision or else the decision will ultimately be made for you?
I was talking with a friend about this and took away 2 questions for reflection:
1. Where am I headed? (or, Where do I feel God is taking me/leading me?)
2. Does this decision help me get there?
Let’s say you are headed towards starting a family, or that is where you feel God leading you. You have a decision to buy a new sports car. Does that help or hinder you in your direction of starting a family? Would it be better for a mini-van or a used car and save the money for a nursery?
Or you know you want to live on the West Coast, but you are offered a great job in Chicago. Do you take it? Does the job help get you to the West Coast? Maybe it does, maybe it doesn’t.
Looking to the path that a decision will take you down and ask will it get you closer to where you want to be, is a great way to consider going left or right at an intersection. So simple, yet I overlook it so often.
