7 Practices of Effective Ministry

Uncategorized May 06, 2008 No Comments

I’m re-reading through a fantastic book by Andy and North Point Ministries. World Causes is not a church, but there are so many great and practical applications in the book for where we are as a ministry and where I am as a leader.  (both are young, small and need lots of prayer and support!)

I’m going through each chapter and trying to take out the material that I can implement for World Causes. There are also tons of great applications for individuals, families, etc.  I’ll point out those as well.

If you are in ministry/leadership, I would highly recommend this book.

Bittersweet

It was bittersweet  when my brother called  today to say a friend had passed away.  After a long bout with cancer, he went on to be with the Lord last night.  Reading his blog over the past few months was so inspiring and you were able to see someone who had such a close walk with the Lord. I never heard anyone say anything bad about him. We will have his wife and sons in our prayers. It is sad, but now there is no more suffering. He is in the presence of our Savior and King. Be blessed Michael, for you blessed us.

Free Chains update

Our new site is being finished up right now.  It is simple but I think that it’s going look sweet.  I’ll give a sneak peak.  We’re looking into doing a couple of concerts this summer. Right now it looks like Greenville, Charlotte, and maybe Atlanta.  More to come on that as the details are finalized.

Please help spread the word about the Free Chains Campaign.  A child gets caught in the sex trade every 2 minutes. We need all your voices to help.

Things you say to a child that you wouldn't say to an adult

So, my brother and his three children under the age of three were in town and having not been around too many children, I heard some things that don’t normally come up in my normal conversations.

Hey Friend, do you have poop in your pants?

If you play with your cars on the table again, you will go to time out!

Say please…Say please…say please….say please….say please….say please…..say please….say please

If you continue to play under the table while we’re eating you will get a spanking.

Put the remote down, put the cup down, put the candle down, put the cable down, put the car down, put the pillow down…put down everything.

You need to have more on than your diaper if you go out side

Any more…

Stuff Christians Like

If you have not read this blog, get your head out of the sand. This is some serious comedy. And the reason….it’s  almost all true. (Sorry Jon, don’t want to say “all” true b/c I haven’t read every single post!).

Some of my favorites:

The (G)DTR:  When Christian dating relationships bring God into the DTR.

Overusing Your one Seminary Word: You heard a speaker use it, so you leech onto it and impress everyone in your wake.

The Christian Email Address: Still laughing about this one.

The Double Sermon:

“Pray if you feel led”: Freaking hilarious Jon.

The Office 5-1

By far the best episode since the break. Much better intro. I wish they’d make them an hour.

Best Leadership thought: “The longer I get to know you, the less I respect you.”  Hope that’s not true.

Best Monologue

Fluffy Fingers: you just tickle him.  Then you’re laughing and jumping up and down. Then you go to church together and get an ice cream cone.

Biggest Disappointment: Michael did not use “fluffy fingers” on Stanley during their fight.

Best Michael Line: “Ugly Scientist”

Most Annoying Part: Ryan’s reprimanding Jim. The problem is, he’s a writer for the show and I don’t see him writing him self out of the show.

Anyone know how many more episodes are left?

Chuck, Clemson, Courage

Chuck Colson mentions David Woodward of Clemson University in his Break Point article today. I bring this up for two reasons, one, to mention my beloved Clemson (even though its not in the best context, I still love Clemson, for God really met me there) and two because Chuck’s teaching has impacted me greatly.

Chuck praises Woodward for speaking up for what he believed in, even when “he was denied an administrative position on the grounds that he was ‘ideologically incompatible’ with the values of the university” and was ridiculed my many. But David recognized that a clash of worldviews is under way and the so-called culture war is a war of worldviews.  If you have not read Colson’s How Now Shall We Live?, you need to. It has done more for my thinking and walk with God than anything over the past year. In fact, it prompted my joining the Centurion Program, which I would also highly recommend to anyone who wants to impact our culture for the gospel.
